A bachelor’s degree in English prepares students for any field that values critical thinking, high reading comprehension, clear and effective writing, and the ability to interpret and analyze data. Career opportunities are abundant for our students because skills gained from this degree can be easily applied to many career areas, including education, business, writing and editing, publishing, information technology, advertising, media, and law, to name a few.

For further information about careers and how to be competitive in today’s economy, please see your academic advisor, or make an appointment with the University of South Florida’s Career Center, located in SVC2088. Also, check out our Alumni Spotlight page to see more information on career paths.

After choosing English as your major, we recommend students meet with their advisors to clarify career goals and objectives in order to identify a specific area of interest.
