Angelica, Sophomore in Literary Studies

I am a sophomore here at USF, majoring in Literary Studies with an emphasis in Pre-Med. A lifelong passion for reading and books of all shapes and sizes made majoring in English Literature a no-brainer, but my dreams of becoming a physician made me question if it would be beneficial to my future. Imagine my pleasure upon realizing that English teaches skills that are pertinent to any career imaginable. An English major learns to write efficiently, communicate effectively, and think critically. Through English I have learned about human nature and, subsequently, about myself. My path towards a career in medicine will be difficult, but my English classes make that path more enjoyable. Anton Chekhov once said, “Medicine is my lawful wife and literature my mistress.” I think I know the feeling.
